Emergency Response for Museum Collections: A Conservation Perspective at “Roerend Erfgoed: Actualiteiten en Dilemma’s”

On 7 April 2025, Art Conservation Education was honored to contribute to the event “Roerend Erfgoed: Actualiteiten en Dilemma’s”, organized by the Erfgoedacademie. This insightful gathering brought together professionals from across the heritage sector in the Netherlands to explore current challenges and developments in the care of movable heritage — with a strong focus on digital innovation and emergency preparedness.

Our own Kate Seymour represented Art Conservation Education with a presentation on emergency response strategies for museum collections. Her talk emphasized the crucial role of conservation in crisis situations, from mitigating water and fire damage to stabilizing collections impacted by environmental events.

The program included contributions from digital heritage specialists at the RCE, legal experts on open data, and colleagues sharing real-world dilemmas and solutions in conservation and heritage management. Together, these sessions sparked valuable discussion and reflection on how we can strengthen collaboration and resilience across the field.

We’re proud to be part of a community committed to protecting cultural heritage — not just for today, but for generations to come. A heartfelt thank you to the Erfgoedacademie, and all fellow participants for an engaging and inspiring day.
