Preserving the Past: The Mist-Lining Workshop Comes to Seoul’s Leeum Museum This October

For painting conservators, finding the perfect balance between stabilizing a fragile canvas and respecting its original structure is an ongoing challenge. Traditional lining methods can sometimes be too heavy-handed for delicate modern or historic textiles.

Enter Mist-Lining—a highly precise, structural conservation technique that uses an atomised mist of adhesive to secure a reinforcing fabric to the back of a damaged painting without altering its texture or appearance.

This autumn, Art Conservation Education is bringing this specialized expertise to South Korea. Hosted at the prestigious Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul from October 19–23, 2026, this three-day intensive workshop offers a rare, hands-on opportunity for professionals to master the craft.

Why Mist-Lining Matters

Traditional structural treatments often rely on applications of heat, pressure, or moisture, which can risk flattening delicate impasto or altering sensitive paint layers. Mist-lining solves this problem by using a controlled, uniform distribution of acrylic dispersion adhesives.
