Conserving Canvas initiatives | Gdansk 2025

✨ Honoured to have taken part in the final symposium of the Getty Foundation’s Conserving Canvas project at the National Museum in Gdańsk on 20–21 October.

It was inspiring to reconnect with colleagues and see firsthand how the three workshops — including the session on mist lining that I co-led in 2024 with Joanna Strombek (SRAL) — have influenced the participants’ practice and confidence in treating paintings on canvas.

The discussions were rich and personal, shaped by the experiences of the in-house conservation team and the three Ukrainian residents who joined the programme. Their insights and resilience brought particular depth to the exchange and reminded us of the power of shared learning across borders.

A wonderful conclusion to an initiative that continues to strengthen skills, networks, and collaboration in the field of paintings conservation.
