Paint consists of pigments bound in a fluid media that dries to a film. Many minerals and dyes have been mixed with different binding media. Identifying these materials and their degradation helps formulate best-practice conservation methodology. This workshop aims to provide key identifiers for standard materials used to create artworks. Through this study, art historians and conservators gain a deeper understanding of the materials and techniques used in historical paintings, thus preserving them for future generations.
